Where's my Sound ???

Here's a Handy little tip I just figured out today. So I have a button that plays sound and once if finishes playing it should fire the Event.SOUND_COMPLETE. In this events handler, it resets the position back to the beginning of the clip. Now the problem is once I try to play it again, it doesn't seem to fire the Event.SOUND_COMPLETE event. Have you ever had the issue of your Event.SOUND_COMPLETE not firing properly?? Read on and find out why......

This week we are going to check out a quick and useful tip that I didn't even know about until a couple of days ago for selecting XML and XMLList nodes. This won't be as in depth as the last, but I still think its a great quick tip.

Interview with Scott Willis ( FlashDen )

An interview I did with Scott over @FlashDen just released today. It's a pretty good interview and I enjoyed answering all the questions. The interview is mainly about the NYC Flash Developers Happy Hour meetup I often attend run by Jesse Freeman. Make sure to add him on twitter @TheFlashBum. It's a Flash User group here in the big Apple that runs a meeting every once or twice a month. If you happen to be in the New York City area, please stop by and have a good time.

    New XMLLoader 3.0 Release

I have finally gotten around to updating the XMLLoader Class now, in its 3rd Release. With this release comes a couple new properties such as bytesLoaded, bytesTotal, totalItems, currentItem and ratioLoaded. The biggest update is the new naming feature. With this feature you can now give each XML file a name to reference it. Also in the big boat of updates is the new way of handling errors.

    Flex for Free!!

I rarely re post a blog that has already been posted, but in this case I think I will. I'm sure everyone already knows about the student program to get a free copy of Flex. If you are a student you can just submit your student I.D and get a free serial. For those who don't know. Check out this link. Now according to Mr. Lee Brimelow, there is a second program tht allows developers to get a free copy if they are out of work. HOW COOL!!, Adobe is thinking about the little guys =D.

    AS3 Basic Preloader Class

I been thinking of ways to preload things in AS3 like you would in AS2. Meaning a simple drag and drop and it preloads. I unfortunately couldn't come to a solution of just drag and drop. But I have gotten pretty damn close. Last night I started working on a Basic Preloader Class in which I can build more complex preloaders off of. Just like some of the classes in my VIdeoPlayer API, the Base Class gets replaced with BasicPreloader to give it its functionality.

Tutorial Published in Web Designer Magazine

Just would like to let everyone know to pick up the 155th issue of Web Designer Magazine. I have been published AGAIN!! What a great feeling to see your words in a publication. Anyway, I wrote a Papervision 3D tutorial for beginning PV3D users. It is an interactive 3D Menu. By the time you get through the complete tutorial, you will know most of the basic tools for creating 3D scenes in PV3D. This isn't a tutorial on the Great White version of Papervision, This is on the newest release of PV3D which I recommend everyone get.

Here is a link to get your issue.

TweenLite Family and gTween Are Getting Married

My favorite Tweening engine is uniting with another popular engine, gTween. Just checked my email to hear the fascinating news. Jack Greensock and Grant Skinner, both renowned in the Flash community have decided to put there heads together and make a Powerhouse Tweening engine which should be better than both. I myself am looking forward to this union. I never had the chance to use gTween alone because I was so hooked on TweenLite, but I know the newest version borrowed some of gTweens features such as shortRotation. There is also a beta version out that can be found on Jack's site.

    New kreativeKING VideoPlayer API

I finally released the kreativeKING Videoplayer API. I'm sure you all remember the old VideoViewer and ProgressionBar classes. Well this new set of API does away with those and replaces with a plethora of new classes to make your video player creating processes much easier. Spend more time on design than on programming. Some of the 10+ classes released are VideoWindow ( Replacement of the VideoViewer Class ), VideoPanel ( ProgressionBar replacement) and the VideoControl Classes. These are the main 3 classes that you will be using to the video players logic. I will post later on a short tutorial on creating a video player using the API.

    Javascript and Actionscript Conversation

This weekend my good friend Peter Panton asked my for some help setting up some communication between Javascript and Actionscript. He wanted to be able to get the scroll value of the HTML page and use it in Flash. To be honest, I never did any kind of communication between the two and had no idea where to start. I did some research and came across the ExternalInterface Class.

    New QuickView Portfolio Mini Site

I have been applying for alot of freelance jobs lately and I don't really have a portfolio up showcasing my flash skills. I usually just forward them here to my blog but I don't think employers have any patience to sift through the posts. So I decided to make a little mini site that has links to my various works. It is all built in flex ( Yup, I'm learning MXML and I must say..... I like it).

    Now a PUBLISHED AUTHOR

I was looking in Barnes and Noble, checking out the usual magazines I always do. I happen to come across the new Flash and Flex magazine and take a look at the table of contents to see my name in bold letters. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I completely forgot that I submitted an article to FFD introducing my XMLLoader Class. Its a very good article and tutorial and I suggest anyone t check it out. Another well known author in this issue is, flash community guru, Lee Brimelow. It feels good to actually see your name in a magazine. Hopefully it will not be the last.

    AIRUploader Preview

I know I haven't been posting as frequently as I used to, but I have good reason. The AIRUploader is one of those reasons. This is a project I have been working on in the past week and a half. It started out as just practice for learning how to use the FileReference class, but then grew to be muuuuuuch more.
This application is essentially a drag and drop FTP Uploader. I sometimes hate uploading files. Signing in, looking for directories, etc etc. So I decided to make this application. It will save your login information so you don't have to keep entering your information.
